“When love and skill come together, expect a masterpiece.” John Ruskin
The Golden Classic Deering banjo is a culmination of all the historical richness of sound found in the banjos of the pre-war era combined with the glorious aesthetic of superb craftsmanship. Highly prized for its rich, buttery golden hue, 24-Karat gold has long been demanded by discerning jewelers. This same superb quality workmanship enhances the metal that encircles the frosted top head of the banjo, in a design that is true to the history of the pre-war period with the elegant richness of frosted brushed gold complimented by the sparkling gleam of engraving in smoothly buffed gold.
The Golden Classic neck has a traditional feel in neck width, depth and the taper from nut to heel that is comfortable for bluegrass musicians. The elegant peghead is bound in a lustrous white trim, accented with a 24-K gold script inlay of the Deering name and Mother of Pearl hearts and flowers inlay with gold plated planetary Deering tuners. The neck itself is also bound in white and is noted for its ease of play and volume from the fuller shape. The ebony fingerboard is polished to a smooth, slick surface that is fast and easy for all left hand fingering techniques. The two way adjustable truss rod and glued in frets offer the banjoist increased adjustability, perfect fretting accuracy, and long term stability.
The neck, resonator, and three-ply maple rim are crafted from our premium quality and highly figured rock maple and stained with the lush, rich yet transparent cremona staining process for which Deering is renowned. The word “cremona” refers to the famous violin makers of Cremona, Italy whose priceless instruments were stained with this technique. The classic “hearts and flowers” mother of pearl inlays are flawlessly crafted into the hard, dense, colorful, exotic and naturally beautiful ebony fingerboard.
The new Deering -06- 20 hole bell bronze tone ring is fitted to the three ply maple rim. What this means to the player is an instrument with great depth of tone, incredible power, better note sustain in the mid-range; one whose notes flow easier and smoother, making the instrument easier to handle. The cast one piece resonator flange is a zinc alloy with the same mass and design of the pre-war banjos. These are the most important tone ingredients to achieve the classic sound.
The deep curly maple resonator has internally tapered sidewalls. The tapered inside walls of the resonator focus the sound making the banjo more responsive and clearer and louder. The depth is to the exact specifications of the originals and gives that rich, hollow character that is so desirable by today's bluegrass musicians.
The Golden Classic banjo embodies all the best that is banjo! It is a treat for the eyes, a joy to hear, and an incredible sensual experience to play.
