Welcome!

Janet and I welcome you to the world of Deering Banjos. Our website shows all of the many banjos that we make here at our factory. We are dedicated to making our banjos in the United States. This includes the Deering, Vega, Tenbrooks, and Goodtime banjos, all of which are made by Janet and I and our team of 33 dedicated and devoted banjo specialists right here in our Spring Valley, California location, just 10 miles East of downtown San Diego. Janet and I would love to have you come visit us and take a factory tour. It is a great honor for us to have you visit and share with you the joy we and our staff have in making banjos. Over the last 35 years we have made more than 50,000 banjos and every one of them has been crafted with special attention. We are a family run business, and we like to treat our craftsmen, suppliers, dealers, and especially our customers as part of the Deering family. Our focus and passion is to create great banjos that enable you as an artist to express yourself and your music. We look forward to building your special banjo.

A Note from Jens Kruger:
Greg Deering has been one of the leading figures in the banjo world during the past 35 years as new music has been developed needing a specific design of banjo. The evolution of instruments comes step by step according to the needs of the artists and we are on the cutting edge of this development. Greg is very creative at finding unique ways to produce wood rims, cut necks, create special tooling, optimize finishes, invent electric banjos & special tone rings, invent better tailpieces, bridges, tension hoops, etc.. Actually every part of the banjo has been reinvented by the Deering Banjo Company. Many patents have been applied for and approved. Great artists around the world trust our quality. For the player, playability and durability are very important, and tone is paramount. A good tone defines itself through a strong fundamental note and a nicely balanced overtone spectrum that relates to that foundation note with no mistakes. To have that on every fret across the whole fingerboard is the challenge. Now, if somebody were to play the banjo hard or soft or anything in between he still likes to hear a pleasant tone. We believe we have achieved this and that we manufacture some of the cleanest and most expressive banjos ever built. This is the result of intense research and trial and error over the past 35 years. Most instruments on the market sound quite okay in the living room. Our question is, are they amplifiable? Are they recordable? Do they blend well with other instruments? That defines the difference between an amateur and a professional grade instrument. Only the best ingredients will make a banjo of that capability. All of our banjos including the Goodtime models are designed to meet these standards. Even though we believe our instruments look great, they are first of all tone producing tools. All of our different models focus on special needs and we are sure that you can find what you are looking for here. We make all of our banjos right here in the United States and we will keep it that way because we can guarantee the quality of the materials and workmanship that go into each banjo and give you prompt service. I invite you to play our banjos and experience what a banjo can be.

After you purchase a Deering, Vega, or Tenbrooks banjo and send in your Lifetime Warranty card, we register that banjo to you as the original owner. Twice a year we send out Gold Cards to new banjo owners, along with a Deering Banjo Maintenance Manual. A Gold Card is a plastic card that is embossed with your name, the model you purchased, the date of your purchase and the serial number of your banjo. The purpose of the Gold Card is to acknowledge and validate your ownership and it serves for proof of ownership in the future. The number imbedded in the back of the peghead on your banjo matches the last four numbers of your serial number on the card. The other numbers on the card are written inside the resonator on the serial number label. Goodtime banjos do not come with serial numbers and so we do not provide Gold Cards for Goodtime banjos. However when you return your warranty card to us, we register your ownership in our database. Your Six Year Warranty is in effect for any defects in materials or workmanship from the date of your purchase. Upon receipt of your warranty card we send out a Goodtime Banjo Maintenance Manual so that you have the instructions needed to properly maintain your banjo.

We hope that you will choose a Deering and gain a lifetime of satisfaction by owning the finest.
