The Black Diamond banjo evolved from requests for a fancier banjo
than the Deluxe but with the same sweet tone of a mahogany banjo.
The mother-of-pearl diamond shaped inlays are hand-engraved. This
kind of detailing requires the skills of a master craftsman and pays off
in added beauty. A maple stripe accentuates the black binding around
the resonator and the side of the ebony fingerboard. The banjo head is
made of black mylar so the color will not scratch off. You get the same
three-ply maple rim, virgin bell bronze sand cast tone-ring, zinc flange
and nickel plated hardware on the Black Diamond that you get on the
most expensive Deering models.
The sweet sounding Black Diamond has a very refined and showy
appearance. The shiny black head and black trim give it a modern and
progressive look. It's the only model with the inlays hand engraved
giving it a very classy appearance. It's an excellent performing banjo
and a hot looking banjo as well.
The Deluxe is one of the most popular models of the Deering line. The
gloss finish, ebony fingerboard, diamond shaped inlays, and extra trim
on the back of the resonator and along the edge of the peghead are
features that make a more elegant instrument.
The mahogany neck and resonator create a sweet tone. Made with the same three-ply maple rim, sand-cast virgin bell bronze tone-ring, zinc flange, and nickel plated metal parts that we use on our most expensive banjos, the Deluxe offers a great sound. It is basically the same as the top-of-the-line but without the most costly cosmetics.
It's great sounding, great playing, and great looking. Dollar for dollar,
the Deluxe is one of the best banjo values available anywhere.
"I happened to sit down with the Deering that first time and made the
mistake of closing my eyes. That is what causes me to be sending the
warranty card to you today. When I judged the banjo by sound and
feel, there was. for me, no comparison...The Deering Deluxe is right
there - I guess pretty isn't worth a penny if it doesn't sound and play
the way you want it to!"

"I purchased a Deering Deluxe five-string about four years ago. It's
playability and sound is great. My instructor thinks it sounds better that
his pre-WWII Mastertone. Thank you for making a great sounding,
great playing banjo."

"I am particularly appreciative of your customized work. I stand in awe
of the finished product (custom Black Diamond) for it's sweet clarity of
sound, but even more for the personal pride you took in all it's
customized features. Thank you for the privilege of being a part of the
Deering banjo family and tradition."
