Deering Artists Prove Banjo’s Ageless Appeal

Deering Banjo endorsing artists Mark Johnson, Kerry Jones, and Ryan Holladay prove that not only the banjo but its music have an ageless appeal. Recording with the beautiful Ivanhoe, electric Crossfire, and traditional Golden Era, respectively, these three talented banjoists highlight the musical versatility of their Deering banjos, the most popular American-made banjos in the world.
Mark Johnson, who plays in a lively style of banjo he calls “Clawgrass,” has recently released a CD called “Acoustic Campaign.” The power and sustain of the beautiful Ivanhoe by Deering Banjos, rings true on the dozen songs recorded, three composed by Mark himself. “Mosby’s Rangers” , a tribute to Virginia’s Civil War heroes, is a beautifully reflective tune. We can all relate to the feelings of personal loss in the moving song,
“Heartbroken.” A tribute to Nancy Ritchie, co-founder of Banjo Newsletter Magazine, is what motivated Mark to write “Mother Banjo.” Partnered by the talented multi-instrumentalist Emory Lester on guitar and mandolin, Mark has given us a great tribute to the richness of acoustic instruments!
Ten-year old Ryan Holladay, the youngest banjo player ever to appear on the Grand Old Opry, has recorded a CD he’s titled “Old Soul.” Ryan plays his Deering’s pre-war style Golden Era banjo with mastery. His rendition of “Girls are Looking Better” is bound to make you smile! Chris Thile of Nickle Creek said “Ryan has an exceptional ear and an almost eerie grasp on every aspect of bluegrass music.”
Hear this for yourself on this CD by the youngest “Old Soul” you can imagine.
“Transitions” by a group called Classical Grass features the talented Kerry Jones on his Deering Crossfire electric banjo. This unique collection of 16 banjo tunes combines music by classical composers Bach and Rossini, jazz great Duke Ellington, and bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs. How does it sound? The talented foursome have produced music that would make all of these writers wish the banjo was part of their original compositions!
