DEERING UNVEILS TENBROOKS LINE

Deering Banjo Company’s Tenbrooks line has been created with an array of evolutionary refinements to the banjo that are historically unprecedented. Drawing on the knowledge of great banjos of the past, the insight of today’s top artists, and Deering’s intimate awareness of the nature of banjo construction and design, the Deering Tenbrooks banjo has a depth and dimension never before achieved in America’s favorite instrument.

A collaborative effort between Deering Banjo Company, internationally renowned banjoist Jens Kruger, and the 600-year-old Reutschi Bell Foundry of Switzerland combined a wealth of knowledge in instrument design, insight into the subtlest of nuances of sound and tone, and an advanced understanding of the metallurgy required to unleash the full potential of a truly world-class banjo that will join the ranks of the great classical instruments of our time. By evaluating all the tonal components of the banjo itself, altering and re-designing the key elements and adding the proper fitting and assembly, Deering Banjo Company unveils the Tenbrooks line for dealers at the 2004 NAMM Show. This latest addition to the Deering line takes its name from the famous racehorse Tenbrooks, a name also familiar to many Bill Monroe fans because of the bluegrass classic, “Mollie and Tenbrooks.” In keeping with its namesake, the Deering’s Tenbrooks is set to take the lead among other banjos currently on the market.

The Tenbrooks line is the culmination of innovative approach in thought and action regarding the banjo. Readily discernable to both player and listener alike, is the superior new Deering tonering. Precision tuning of the tonal spectrum within the tonering has given the new Deering tonering the broadest range of correctly tuned vibrating frequencies of any tonering ever created for the banjo. Created by the Reutschi Bell Foundry who combined its centuries of experience with the incomparable musical understanding of the talented Swiss banjoist Jens Kruger and the over a quarter of a century of banjo production of the Deering Banjo Company, the new Kruger/Deering tonering has elevated the banjo to the level of the finest classical instruments of the world. Newly redesigned tuning pegs with marked improvements in smoothness and precision will make difficult tuning a thing of the past. The latest innovation in tailpieces was created by Greg Deering by blending the features in one of the most popular tailpieces in bluegrass, to his own design of several years to make a tailpiece that is fully adjustable, without the annoying, buzzing string cover and utilizing a tone specific alloy that decreases weight and is free of added tonal interference. Jens Kruger has hailed it “The best tailpiece ever built.”
