“If you already know how to tie your shoes, then we can teach you how
to play the banjo!” says the Deering Banjo Company! Known for their innovative
approach in their banjo line, Deering’s sales manager Barry Hunn has created
the “2-finger banjo method” aimed at showing people who have a heart-felt
desire to play the banjo, just how easy it can be. This hour long, 2-part DVD,
available free from the Deering Banjo Company for a modest $4.95 shipping/handling
charge, includes an informative 30 minutes on their popular Goodtime line of
American-made banjos as well as a fun-filled 30 minute banjo lesson showing
how you can play the banjo with only 2-fingers! Barry Hunn, an experienced professional
banjo player before coming to Deering as their world-wide sales manager, created
the method after hearing so many individuals say “they could never play
the banjo” even though they had a great desire to do so.
The banjo is very uniquely suited to getting even non-musical people into making
music because it is tuned in a “G”chord. This means that because
the 5 strings are already tuned to the notes in a G chord, you need only support
the banjo neck with your left hand and simply strum across the 5 strings with
one finger of your right hand and you are automatically playing a “G”
chord. With the help of the DVD lesson, viewers will learn how to create two
other simple one-finger chords (C, D) by just using the index finger of their
left hand to “bar” across the strings at two other positions on
the fingerboard. These 3 chords are used in a number of popular songs and those
watching this entertaining DVD will learn all three chords and 3 songs in just
30 minutes using only the index finger of each hand!
Ever wonder how banjos
are made or what the parts are called? This DVD will answer those questions
as well. Barry goes slowly and carefully over the different parts of the banjo
as illustrated on the Goodtime openback, resonator, and tonering Goodtime Special
models. There is even great footage of actual factory construction of the banjos
accompanied by some lively banjo playing in the background.
