About Lawson Peets
T. Lawson Peets was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He moved to the Ninth Ward of New Orleans, Louisisana when he was in third grade. He learned to play guitar in the mid-fifties and formed a rock and roll band, The Embertones, while in high school. In August of 1964 he bought his first banjo-a long neck folk model that he soon traded in for a standard 5 string. After a few lessons, he worked up his own style of playing. (There was only one 5 string book in those days). Later, Lawson traveled the "Holiday Inn Circuit" for four years and made his banjo a key part of his act. In 1976, he opened a teaching studio that turned into a two store operation. In 1989, he left retail and joined Gibson USA where he spent several tours of duty. In the mid 1990's he was a partner with the legendary Charlie Derrington-the man who repaired Bill Monroe's mandolin. In addition, he has worked as a District Sales Manager for Washburn. Lawson joined Deering in July of 2005 where he currently serves as Director Of Market Expansion. He often tells folks, "I'm one of the luckest people in the world, my passion, my job and my hobby are all the same." |
