Deering Deluxe™ 5-String Banjo

$3,659.00

Now featuring a walnut neck, the Deering Deluxe truly stands out as a banjo with it's own tone.  The walnut neck gives the banjo a perfect balance of brightness and warmth.  When paired with our -06- bell bronze tone ring, the Deluxe comes alive and gives you a banjo that will stand out from the pack.

Built with Deering's genuine bell bronze tone ring, three ply violin grade maple rim and one piece, cast, zinc resonator flange, this Deluxe is as easy to play as it is beautiful.

The mother of pearl inlay in the peghead, is the very first Deering logo designed by Greg Deering for his first banjo in 1969. The multicolor binding and high gloss finish enhance the gold and perloid inlays on the exotic, natural ebony fingerboard. "The inspiration for the inlay artwork comes from the early Boston banjo masters. And if you look at the peghead of the Deluxe, it has some of the same elements as the Sierra, but it is much more expanded and it comes alive with the turn of the century Boston masters element - and that was just the design that flowed out onto the page. It's a lot of fun to have that kind of artwork on a banjo that people can afford. The first professional banjo we made was the Deluxe so it always has a very dear spot to us because it was the first professional banjo we made way back in '79." Greg Deering

One of Deering's oldest and most popular models, this banjo brings the power, easy playability and maintenance together in a beautiful, historically important banjo that is just as much at home on the front porch as it is on the road. It truly is a Deluxe banjo.

Deering Dropkick Murphys Tenor Banjo

$3,649.00

The Dropkick Murphys Banjo is a representation of the band with their shield crest of anchors, shamrocks, and leaves on the traditionally shaped banjo headstock.

Beautifully inlayed into the fingerboard in Italian Pearloid are the name of the band in Old English lettering, two classic shamrocks and a banner proudly supporting "Boston″ at its base. Only the highest quality of curly maple wood is used for the neck and resonator on this model. A special thing about the Dropkick Murphys Model is that it is one of the lightest professional banjos made. Its' tone ring is made out of grenadillo wood rather than metal. This gives it a bright warm sound and most of all makes it easy to dance with on stage!

This banjo is fitted with a Kavanjo banjo pickup system which allows the banjo to be plugged in and played at screaming volumes without any feedback while still maintaining its acoustic tone.

When Jeff DaRosa, the banjo player of the band, played the very first Dropkick Murphys Deering Banjo he said, "This thing rules!! This is the best banjo I've ever played!″ The goal of making this available to all Dropkick Murphys fans, Deering has made a twin model in the Goodtime line with the same special art work engraved proudly on the neck. Made with a violin grade maple rim, the Goodtime models are the most affordable banjos one can get while still having a professional level of sound. Deering Sierra™ 19-Fret Tenor Banjo

$2,999.00

"Well folks, it's like this,The Deering Sierra banjo, while being our least expensive completely professional banjo, is truly the flagship of our entire line! How is it that this is so? Well I'll tell you.

The pot assembly of the Sierra, the violin grade maple 3 ply rim, the -06- tone ring, the one piece zinc flange, the notched tension hoop, the Deering tail piece and armrest are exactly the same as our whole line all the way up to the Gabriella, with just a few exceptions. The only exceptions are; the Golden Era has a different zinc flange, the Hartford has a Grenadillo wood tone ring, the Terry Baucum has an -06- tone ring that is just a few ounces lighter than thestandard -06- tone ring, and the Tenbrooks banjos have the Swiss Jens Kruger tone ring.

The G.D.L. has the exact same pot assembly as the Sierra, The Ivanhoe, except for cosmetic differences such as gold plating, has the exact same pot assembly as the Sierra. The Maple Blossom, the Deluxe, the Calico, the Black Diamond all have the exact same pot assembly as the Sierra. This means that the Sierra is truly a top professional banjo. PERIOD! When I first introduced the Sierra I kept the cost down by keeping the cosmetics simple. I put the money intothe pot assembly. I wanted to build a top professional banjo at a price that I could have afforded when I was a kid going to the music store on my way home from school every day.

The Sierra has been tremendously successful. But it is no longer cosmetically simple. With the implementation ofnew technology I have been able to make the Sierra exquisitely beautiful without raising the price. I have beengreatly inspired by the art work of the old masters of the Boston banjo era from the turn of the last century. Withthis inspiration in my blood I have brought art to the Sierra that is usually reserved for banjos costing much, much more. And I have kept the cost down using state of the art technology. So now the Sierra is a truly professional master piece of both sound and art at a price that is within your reach. We sell more Sierras than any other model and that makes it our flagship banjo!"

Deering Sierra™ Plectrum banjo

$2,999.00

Well folks, it's like this,The Deering Sierra banjo, while being our least expensive completely professional banjo, is truly the flagship of our entire line!

The only exceptions are; the Golden Era has a different zinc flange, the Hartford hasa Grenadillo wood tone ring, the Terry Baucum has an -06- tone ring that is just a few ounces lighter than thestandard -06- tone ring, and the Tenbrooks banjos have the Swiss Jens Kruger tone ring.

The G.D.L. has the exact same pot assembly as the Sierra, The Ivanhoe, except for cosmetic differences such as gold plating, has the exact same pot assembly as the Sierra.

I put the money into the pot assembly.

I have been greatly inspired by the art work of the old masters of the Boston banjo era from the turn of the last century. Withthis inspiration in my blood I have brought art to the Sierra that is usually reserved for banjos costing much, much more. Deering Deluxe™ 6-String Banjo

$3,849.00

Perfect for guitar players, this banjo is tuned like a guitar (E,A,D,G,B,E) the D-6 is a professional banjo that is heavier than the B-6 with the full rim and tone ring design of a bluegrass banjo. It has more volume and sustain than the B-6. It will fill the room with great music with a light touch of your fingers or flat pick!

You can relax using light touch and get a much more vibrant and responsive tone playing the D-6 with considerably less effort than you use in playing a guitar. Guitar players have nothing more to learn, just play your favorite songs because it's a guitar that sounds like a banjo. The sweet sounding 6-String Deluxe is one of the best banjo values available anywhere. Built with Deering's genuine -06- bell bronze tone ring, three ply violin grade maple rim, and one piece, cast, zinc resonator flange, this Deluxe is as easy to play as it is beautiful.

Deering® John Hartford 5-String Banjo

$4,999.00

People ask why we have a non standard inlay pattern on this banjo. It was once the standard pattern and fairly common to just have the inlays grouped right in the middle and out on the ends of the fingerboard. Some of the old banjos like the Farland, and some of those old banjos made before 1900 had this, so John asked us to do that. John was a licensed river boat captain and wanted us to put some sort of a riverboat theme into his banjo. And again, we were kind of stumped a little bit, not wanting to just put inlays of riverboats in the fingerboard. Then we had a really neat opportunity because when Chuck, our head craftsman and artist who has been with us over 30 years now, was growing up and learning to play music his main banjo hero was John Hartford. Chuck grew up in Minnesota and when John Hartford would come to town to play he would never miss a concert and he thought John Hartford was the coolest musician. The idea that he would someday be making a banjo for John Hartford was beyond his wildest dreams so I gave the job of designing the inlays to Chuck.

Chuck started studying riverboats and reading a lot. He went to the library and found all the books he could about riverboats. He discovered that there is a whole classic architecture of riverboats that's significantly different than the architecture that goes into houses. People think that the gingerbread on a riverboat is the same as on the house but it is actually distinctly and identifiably different. The ratio of the length to width and the style of the scrolls that go into the riverboat architecture are different than what is on a gingerbread house, a Victorian period house. So Chuck took the riverboat architecture and used that classic form to develop inlays for the Hartford banjo. It ended up having a very riverboat type of flavor because it uses that architecture and that art form without having to have pictures of riverboats on it. We accomplished a really classic design for John and Chuck was able to have a wonderful time working with John on the inlay.

When John Hartford passed away we changed the nameplate on the fingerboard from mother of pearl to abalone in the fingerboard. So if you find a Hartford with a white mother of pearl name plate it was built before he passed away. If it has abalone it was made after his passing.

There is an even lighter weight version - the Hartford Pop-On Resonator banjo which is convertible from openback to bluegrass style by popping on the resonator. (replacing the 2 lb flange with a brass tube) - Greg Deering

Deering Maple Blossom™ 5-String Banjo

$4,539.00

Now featuring a radiused fingerboard!  A radiused fingerboard is an arched fingerboard which you will find on most electric and modern acoustic guitars.  This arch fits the fold of your hand better and makes it easier for both your left and right hand to play the banjo.

Curly maple wood, -06- tone ring, and flower inlays are the other key elements of the Deering Maple Blossom banjo. Maple Blossom is made from eastern violin grade curly maple, stained with a dark walnut stain, and adorned with flower mother of pearl inlays. When this individually selected wood is built into a banjo with the genuine Deering -06-bronze tone ring, 3-ply violin grade maple rim, and one piece zinc flange, the result is a banjo that is so bright, crisp and clear that every note pops out of this banjo with precision and power.

The Deering -06- tone ring produces a beautiful, balanced overtone spectrum. Its weight is ideal for most styles played on the banjo. A softer touch will provide you with as much sustain as you ever want, a sharper attack will produce a distinct pop and accurate note separation. You will notice no dead spots over the entire fingerboard. The beautiful highs and powerful well rounded bass is the result of intense study of alloys and shapes which resulted in the new -06- tone ring you hear in the great tone of the Maple Blossom banjo today.
