6-String Banjos for Guitar Players

If you already play guitar and have thought that it would be fun to learn to play the banjo here is your instrument. Now you can play banjo with the same chords and fingering you already know. It's great for those songs that would sound better if played on a banjo.

The 6-string banjo idea came to Greg Deering after he heard a song called "Desert Pete" on one of the Kingston Trio albums. He tried for weeks to figure it out on the 5-string banjo. Later he learned that it had been recorded by Glen Campbell on a 6-string banjo.

In examining older 6-string banjos, Greg observed the consistent lack of good tone. So he decided to determine why it never sounded quite right. He solved this mystery and now we produce the only 6-string banjos with great sustain and beautiful tone.

You get the same adjustable mahogany neck on the D-6 and B-6. It features an arched ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays and 22 frets. The tropical American mahogany provides a sweet and singing tone.

B-6 Hear a Sample
The B-6, Boston 6-string is lighter weight. The drum assembly is like the Boston 5-string model and produces a good, clean sound. It has a satin finish.

D-6 Hear a Sample
The D-6, Deluxe 6-string, with its 3-ply maple rim and virgin bell bronze tone-ring provides a completely professional sound with more sustain and excellent clarity. Both instruments come with compensated bridges for accurate intonation.

The most appealing aspect of our 6 & 12-string banjos is the fact that our necks are sleek and comfortable - easy to play.

You can hear John Sebastian play the B-6 in his Jug Band performances. On Joe Satriani's ablum, "Flying in a Blue Dream" you can hear him play the D-6 on the songs "The Feeling" and "The Phone Call". The D-6 is so easy to play that the recording of "The Feeling" was made just after Joe had picked up and tuned the D-6 for the first time - it was the first song he ever played on the instrument and since he was in the recording studio they turned on the equipment. That first song was so good it made the album!

Rod Stewart played a D-6 on the song "Mandolin Wind" on his MTV appearance and his album, "Unplugged".

THE 12-STRING BANJO, D-12 The Grand Piano of Banjos!

Hear a Sample If you play 12-string guitar, you won't believe the tremendous sound you get when playing the same style on the 12-string banjo! We didn't believe it until after we built the first one custom for Barry Hunn and then heard him play it. It even took us by surprise! It is capable of a powerful sound and presence while also able to produce music so sweet that it seems to have been brought down from heaven with the angels.

It is tuned just like a 12-string guitar, and you use the same chords and fingering - nothing new to learn.

The 12-string banjo is built similar to a Deluxe banjo but with a special tailpiece and compensated bridge. The mahogany neck shape is very comfortable and easy to play. Diamond shaped mother-of-pearl inlays are set into the arched ebony fingerboard. The action is excellent.

Joe Satriani played a D-12 on the song, "Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness" on his "Extremist" CD that went Gold. David Hidalgo played a D-12 on Los Lobos' "Kiko" CD on the song, "Two Janes".

" I received my D-6 this Spring, and love it. I have found that your banjo is easier to play than any of my guitars, and I have some very good guitars! The fact is, the neck on your banjo is very well designed and made. It's playability is effortless and superb. It is a joy to play. Please let me know when you start making guitars!"

"First, I want to thank you for the Gold Card. It's quite impressive and a great idea. Secondly, it has been over a year now since the 12-string banjo and I came together. From performing at the Great '91 Connecticut Jazz Festival to playing in a neighborhood bar in Sacramento, and all inbetween parades and concerts on our '41 Ford fire engine, the banjo has more than met my expectations. Deering did a wonderful job putting the banjo together."
