Goodtime Resonator Fabricator

Deering Banjo Company is the world's largest manufacturer of American Made banjos and we take a great deal of pride in the quality of our instruments. We are currently searching for an experienced individual to join the team as part of the Goodtime Banjo Final Assembly Team.

Job Summary

The resonator is what we call the back of the banjo. It is a wooden, circular concave back that is designed to help the player project the sound of the banjo forward to the audience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for gluing and molding the plys, before gluing to the resonator sides, adding binding and preparing for finish. Daily quotas, detailing needs of specifications will be expected to be met, ensuring that we succeed as a team to meet our company wide goals.

Responsibilities

  • Glue and mold back veneers, per model specification
  • Glue back to resonator sides
  • Cut binding slots and install binding per model specification
  • Trim and scrape binding
  • Hand sand/prepare for finish
  • Similar additional duties as required
  • Skillsets Required

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Strong Attention to Detail
  • Experience with woodwork a plus
  • Experience with stringed/fretted instruments (manufacturing/repair) a plus
  • Experience with power tools and hand tools (bandsaw, Dremel, chisels etc)

    This role utilizes the use of commercial grade machinery including:
  • Custom made presses
  • Commercial Table Saw
  • Radial Arm Saw
  • Band Saw
  • Thickness planer
  • Shaper Table
  • Custom sanding/scraping lathe

    Upperline Neck Craftsman

    Deering Banjo Company is the world's largest manufacturer of American Made banjos and we take a great deal of pride in the quality of our instruments. We are currently searching for an experienced individual to join the team as Upperline Neck Craftsman.

    Job Summary

    Our Upperline range of banjos represent the finest banjos available in the market and are renowned for their superior craftsmanship, tone and beauty. The Upperline Neck Craftsman will be responsible for the final stages of our Upperline necks following their construction, carving and inlay installation, which is performed by the Upperline Neck Coordinator whom the candidate will work closely alongside. The Upperline Neck Craftsman will be responsible for ensuring that the final product is entirely ready for the sanding department, demonstrating a keen eye for detail to ensure that the neck reflects the premium quality that our customers expect. This will include the installation of nut, side dots, frets, as well as some binding, neck profiling and engraving to assigned specifications, as well as occasional custom work.

    Responsibilities

  • Completion of Upperline necks following inlay installation
  • Fretting (glued and pressed)
  • Nut installation
  • Side dot installation
  • Binding
  • Fingerboard radius
  • Fine detail work
  • Neck profiling
  • Replacing inlays as needed
  • Engraving shell/inlay products

    Skillsets Required

  • Experience with woodwork a must
  • An eye for fine detail
  • Experience with stringed/fretted instruments (manufacturing/repair) a plus
  • Hand Strength and stability/steadiness
  • Experience with power tools and hand tools (bandsaw, Dremel, chisels etc)

  • Air powered orbital sanders
  • Router Table
  • Various hand tools

  • Only reliable, honest and hardworking people who enjoy being a part of a growing, family owned business need apply.  We are located in Spring Valley, just 10 miles East of downtown San Diego at Highway 94 and Kenwood Drive.  Experience with the assembly, repair, or set up of stringed, fretted instruments is a must. As is a high level of attention to detail, both visually and with using measurement instruments. Experience in woodwork and using basic hand tools, particularly those commonly used for stringed instrument set up is a must. The successful candidate will also have a great attitude and a willingness to helping the entire team succeed.
