It is tuned just like a 12-string guitar, and you use the same chords and fingering and get a whole new spectacular sound. David Hidalgo played a D-12 on Los Lobos' "Kiko" CD on the song, "Two Janes", and Joe Satriani's Exremist CD on the song Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness. It's truly the grand piano of banjos.
