The Vega tubaphone banjo is unquestionably one of the most unique banjos in the history of this young and growing instrument. Touted by some as the ultimate banjo tone, it is prized for it's full, round and yet sparkling tone and for its depth, responsiveness and power. For years only affluent collectors could afford tubaphone banjos made early in the 20th century and anyone who wanted one would search and pay premium prices for these coveted instruments. Those days are gone. The new Vega D-2 Tubaphone is the first of a new breed of traditional style banjo that offers all the tone, dynamics, sparkle, power, depth and full tone and more. The fit and finish of this instrument are second to none and is part of the continuing evolution of this legendary heritage. This is the new golden age of the great Vega tradition.

The Vega No. 2 Tubaphone is built around the classic Tubaphone tone ring made specially by Deering. This tone ring, first introduced in 1909, is a complex and demanding tone ring to build. Made in three pieces that must be assembled with extreme precision (or it just won't work), this ring is hand made and hand assembled by highly trained luthiers, creating one of the most beautiful sounding tubaphones ever made.

Is carefully fitted to a three ply rock maple rim. Fitted to the outside of the rock maple
rim is a thick, solid brass bracket band that the bracket shoes are fastened to without
drilling holes through the maple rim. Traditionally, this has been the most desirable configuration for these classic instruments. The inside upper edge of the rim is bound in black and the pot is capped with black as well. The maple rim is stained a honey amber.

The Vega No.2 neck is curly rock maple stained a honey amber and finished to a high gloss. The dimensions of the neck are quite similar to the early Vegas: full and yet fast and comfortable. The ebony overlaid peghead is the small, early style from the classic period near the turn of the century. The Vega vine motif inlays surrounding the Vega name are mother of pearl. The ivoroid bound ebony fingerboard has the classic Vega inlay at the first fret and the
star at the fifth fret, both of mother of pearl. The other fingerboard inlays are mother of pearl dots.

The neck is fastened to the rim with two brass coordinator rods which allow the banjoist to tune and adjust the neck for optimum playabilty for any musical style or technique. The neck is also fitted with a two way adjustable truss rod also to enhance playability and allow the individual to tune the action of the banjo to any taste. The geared fifth peg is
complimented by the four planet style banjo pegs for smooth easy function. All metal parts are nickel plated.
