The Wood Room Coordinator is the owner of the wood room and all of its contents. This is where the journey of building a banjo begins and so it is imperative that quality is maintained. The role will entail a broad range of day to day duties, from hands on processing, to ensuring desired throughput is met, identifying and grading wood, notifying purchaser of stock levels and raising quality concerns.

They will be skilled with their hands and familiar with a variety of machines and ensure consistency in their output. They will literally measure twice and cut once.

They will be personable, and be able to work seamlessly with a variety of team members to ensure goals are met.  

They will also be responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment at all times, ensuring all steps are taken to reduce risk, coordinating machine maintenance and all areas are regularly cleaned.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Processing raw wood into desired specs and dimensions
• Cutting and milling pot and resonator layers
• Creating neck blank for Upperline models
• Prep and mill work on Ebony/Pau Ferro fingerboards
• Prep and mill work on armrest covers
• Prep and mill work on artisan fb neck blanks
• Prep and mill work on veneers      
• Communicating stock levels to purchaser as needed
• Identifying and grading wood
• Organizing and re-organizing wood room

Skillsets Required

• A consistent eye for detail and checking work
• Ability to use measuring devices in an accurate manner (tape measure, ruler, calipers)
• Tolerances 1/32” on table saw and .003” on calipers
• The ability to see the bigger picture
• The ability to stay clean and organized
• Ability to learn, retain and explain information 
• Experience with woodwork a must
• Experience with stringed/fretted instruments (manufacturing/repair) a plus
