Have you watched Kristin's Pick of the Week?

If you follow us on social media, you may have noticed a few new videos from 6-time IBMA Banjo Player of the Year winner, and Deering artist, Kristin Scott-Benson.

The weekly feature called "Kristin's Pick of the Week" is a series of bite-sized videos available exclusively on Instagram, Facebook, (both Deering and Kristin's) or Deering's YouTube, which cover a range of banjo techniques and tips to help you along on your banjo journey. From Pull-offs to chord shapes and much more, Kristin covers the bases! 

If you don't know Kristin Scott-Benson, then you should. Aside from being one of the greatest humans and with just a few IBMA awards to her name, Kristin is one of the most highly respected teachers in banjo. Banjo player for The Grascals, Kristin was the recipient of the Steve Martin Banjo Prize in 2018, and in 2024, she was inducted into the American Banjo Hall of Fame. 

For the past few years, her reputation as a teacher has seen Kristin be called up as a resident teacher at Bela Fleck's Blueridge Banjo Camp in North Carolina.

So, why do we make these videos?
I recently found myself sitting in a room with Peghead Nation co-founder and wonderful human being, Teja Gherkin, who happened to be in San Diego on a personal visit. It is always a pleasure to see him and catch up, and naturally, the conversation took all manner of turns. One area we talked about for a while was the "why" behind what we do. 

What keeps us working for musical instrument manufacturers, or in Teja's case, working as Editor of Acoustic Guitar Magazine before starting the hugely successful online learning platform, Peghead Nation?

And in talking with Teja, the answer was simple; we all absolutely love being a source of joy for so many. In many cases, companies like Deering, Peghead Nation, and others are responsible for building the tools that fuel your passions. And, we are honored to be able to do so.

We hope that regardless of your job, circumstances, or anything going on in your life, you spend at least a small part of your day excited about getting home and picking up your banjo, or learning the next lesson, or watching Kristin's Pick of the Week!

That is what Deering has always strived to do, and we will continue to work to ensure it continues!
