James is a founding member of the alt-rock band American Authors who he played banjo and several other instruments with. They are known for energetic and uplifting sons about life, such as "Best Day of My Life" and "Believer" off their debut album Oh, What a Life.
In 2020 he decided to go out on his own and put together a studio in Nashville to do new musical endeavors.
