Good, functional and economical solution.

"Good, functional and economical solution."

A good strap at a great price

"I didn't need anything fancy for a banjo strap and I usually opt for cradle style straps on my other banjos. But I was very pleased with the strap I bought and I'm rethinking the cradle approach. The plastic nuts are a little cheap, but they do the job. I'd recommend the strap. I bought the light colored one and it matches my natural maple wood banjo pretty well."

The right strap for an open back banjo

"I was using an old heavy strap from my time attempting to play a heavy bluegrass banjo. I sold that banjo to buy a bike. I transferred that heavy duty strap to my Deering Goodtime. It was too large and the clips got in the way. Now I got the Deering strap and it’s perfect for the light weight Goodtime banjo! No clips to get twisted and in the way! Excellent and not expensive!"

Nothing special

"This strap is just ok, nothing special. I ended up purchasing a Lacota Leathers strap to replace it."

Tan Nylon Deering Basnjo Strap.

"Very good product. Well-made, easy to attach, and it securely holds the banjo. Only problem is that the gold Deering logo doesn't really standout on the tan leather. Might want to consider making one in hunter green and red, white, and blue stripes."

Q&A

Will this nylon strap fit the deeming banjo use? Or is another strap better?
The nylon strap works great with the Goodtime series of Deering banjos but it is not recommended for the Upperline Deering models like the Eagle II, Sierra, Calico, etc. These banjos are too heavy for the nylon strap to safely hold your beautiful banjo.
Will this strap support the weight of the Goodtime Midnight Special? If not, which strap would you recommend?
Yes, your banjo only weighs 7 pounds so these would work. It might, however, be better to use the Eagle Logo cradle strap, the soft leather cradle strap or the woven cradle strap for longer durability.
What is the max length of these straps?
63 inches
Is this strap suitable for an Eagle II?
No, do not use the web strap for the Eagle II banjo. Use only the leather cradle straps recommended on the site.
Is there any recommendation on which specific j-hooks to loop the strap around before tightening the Chicago screw back?
Think of the banjo head as a clock with the tailpiece at 6 pm and the neck at 12 o'clock. You start by using the hooks at 3 pm and 9 pm...and then adjust the fit to your body.
I am a short person and most straps are too long even when adjusted down. Is this one adjustable, and do you know if it works well with us more vertically challenged people? :)
Yes, it has a sliding buckle that will make it quite workable.
Below, a question was asked about attaching the nylon strap on a Goodtime banjo. You answered "remove the Chicago screw, wrap the little leather end around a j-hook, and re-attach". What is the/a Chicago screw? I found no reference of it in my owners manual. I have a Goodtime Special that I just purchased, and I'm new at this. Thank you in advance.
A "chicago screw" set up is one that has a screw and a nut. You unscrew the hardware, then put the leather loop through the space between the hook and rim. Now, put the little nut on one end and thread the screw to it on the opposite side. Once you have them in front of you, if will make sense
What color would best match my Goodtime banjo
The straps come in chocolate brown which looks nice with the bow tie inlays. They come in tan which blends well with the brown stained maple wood. And they come in black...what doesn't look good with black? :-) The choice is a personal one.
Where is it made?
This is made in Indiana! :-)
Does it work on the good time 2 banjo?
Yes, it works great on that banjo!
I got the nylon strap for my wonderful new Goodtime banjo and it's great. I see the strap is made for Deering. Do you know if the maker also makes this same style/quality for guitars? If so, would you please tell me how to contact them? Thanks for your help. P.S. I love the emails and information you send out. I look forward to seeing the articles. Around the time they moved to North Wilkesboro at a little place called the "Cook Shack" in Union Grove NC, I was fortunate enough to pick a little with Ewe and lucky to see him with Jens and Joel and meet them as well. Terrific and very nice guys. Thanks again for your help.
Our straps are made by LM Products and they do make guitar straps as well. You should be able to find them on the internet under this name. The Kruger Brothers are awesome musicians and great folks as well. Happy you like them too. :-)
Dear Sirs, Thank you for the information. Are the nylon straps compatible with Tenor Banjos? If not, which do you recommend? Many thanks.
Yes, these will work easily on our tenor Goodtime banjos.
How does the nylon banjo strap (the one that costs $12.95) attach to the banjo? I just purchased a Deering Goodtime 2 and realize I want a strap. As you can tell, I'm new to the banjo! Thank you.
You remove the Chicago screw, wrap the little leather end around a j-hook and reattach the screw. :-)
