Rad banjo

"Sounds incredible. Love it."

Love the tone and lightness

"Love the tone and lightness of the banjo!"

— robert c. (5/5)

Awesome looking

"Considering I am new to the banjo, I don't really have anything to compare this to. However, it sounds great and I am looking forward to learning to play now that I am in my retirement years."

— Glenn S. (5/5)

Superb Tone

"Goodtime playability, the tone is very bright. The sound fills my room."

— Earl E. (5/5)

So far so great

"I got a cheap banjo about a year ago and didn’t realize how lame it was until this bad boy came in the mail today. Plays like a dream and it’s a beauty to look at. Took a little longer to get here than I was told but I’m in VT, literally opposite side of the country and that’s not really Deering’s fault anyway. The customer service people I spoke with, David and an English woman whose name escapes me were both wonderful. Couldn’t be more pleased, I will be returning to Deering for any and all banjo needs."

— John (5/5)

What a beauty!

"Wow! What a beautiful instrument. The craftsmanship is apparent from the box to the banjo itself. I have a lot to learn but at age 60 I am ready to embrace the whole process. My husband is a carpenter and he was admiring your beautiful craftsmanship too. Thank you Deering. I love it!!"

Very pleased

"Very pleased with the quality, easy to play out of the box. I’ve played guitar 16 years and this is my first banjo and I am glad I chose Deering. Bag is a soft case but has a great foam lining, quality strap."

— Benjamin M. (5/5)

Slightly disappointed

"We were very excited to receive this banjo for our daughter, but we are having a very hard time getting it tuned and keeping it that way, we live so far away it is not easy to trying to send it in to get repaired, so she has yet to actually be able to use it"

— Mindy G. (3/5)

Very pleased with my Goodtime Banjo Beginner Package!

"I am very pleased with my purchase of the Goodtime Banjo Beginner Package. The Goodtime is a great first banjo! I am enjoying online lessons and making steady progress. The banjo and accessories were delivered to my house just a few days after I placed the order. Great customer service!"

Q&A

For clearification, does this include the smile bridge, since the standard goodtime does?
The Goodtime banjo included in this pack will have the Goodtime Smile Bridge.
Can you play claw hammer style on a resonator banjo? Thanks Marie
Most definitely!
do you offer the Deering Good Time "Classic" banjo?
The Classic Goodtime banjos have been replaced by our new Artisan models which have the Midnight Maple fingerboard, fancier inlays and still have side dots and an armrest and planetary tuners.
What is the difference between the Goodtime banjo and the Goodtime Americana banjo?
The Americana has a 12" rim and renaissance head which means it has a deeper, rounder sound. The Goodtime has an 11" rim and white head...it is brighter in tone.

Why A Goodtime Banjo

The Pot

1. DEERING GOODTIME SMILE BRIDGE

The responsive sensitivity of the maple, with the hard, dense ebony top contributes to the Goodtime banjos clear, resonant responsiveness.

2. QUIET TAILPIECE

Specially selected metal is used to prevent the tailpiece from making “its own sound” and muddying up the banjo’s tone. The violin maple rim is supposed to sing, not your tailpiece.

3. STABILITY ENHANCING J-HOOKS

The proprietary Deering J-hooks are wider at the top to prevent twisting off the tension hoop when tightening the banjo head.

Goodtime banjo pot - the details

4. QUIET COORDINATOR ROD

Made of special alloy that is strong and does not interfere with the singing resonance of the violin maple rim.

5. 3-PLY VIOLIN GRADE MAPLE RIM

The maple in the Goodtime rim is the exact wood used in the finest violins in the world. Only Deering puts this professional grade 3-ply maple rim in a banjo in this price range.

The Neck

6. SEALED GEARED TUNERS

Five high quality geared tuning machines make tuning the Goodtime banjo easy, accurate and fun. Too many student banjos are cursed with poor quality tuners, so the students blame themselves for an out of tune banjo when it’s the tuner that is at fault.

7. ROCK MAPLE NECK

This fine grained, dense, extremely hard, wood creates a stable neck, and imparts a bright, crisp quality to the Goodtime banjo tone.
