Deering’s new patent-pending Smile™ Banjo Bridge is created to fit into the natural curve created on a banjo head when under string tension. This relieves the stress found in a traditional bridge allowing the Smile™ Bridge to vibrate without constriction. The result is an instantly fuller and more expressive midrange, less constricted low end frequencies, and a wonderful balance across all strings.
Please indicate if you would like the standard string spacing or the wider JD Crowe string spacing in the notes at checkout.
*The top/black portion of your banjo bridge is called “the saddle.” This saddle is made to match the shape of the surface of your banjo fingerboard. Most banjo fingerboards are “flat” meaning that they do not have a curved surface. Some banjos are custom made with a curve to the fingerboard which is called a “radiused fingerboard.” This is not to be confused with the curve of the feet of a Smile™ bridge. When choosing the Smile™ bridge please choose the one that has “the saddle” that is shaped like the surface of your fingerboard.

The Deering Knot-Less Banjo Tailpiece is made in the same Spring Valley factory as all of our banjos. Deering's take on the traditional no-knot tailpiece offers a far lower break angle over the bridge than the standard Deering tailpiece. This gives the banjo the recognizable mellow, muted tone long preferred by the old time/ clawhammer/ frailing style banjo players.
The Knot-Less tail piece is also completely stable, eliminating the age old issue of the tailpiece being pulled from side to side during a restring.
Made for Vega Old Time Wonder, the Deering Knot-Less works for Goodtime Banjos and Deering models without a flange.
Note: Will not fit any Deering banjo that has a standard flange or tube flange.
Hand-made in the Deering factory, the Deering 6-string tailpiece is fully adjustable. Made of steel, nickel plated and for use with ball-end acoustic/electric guitar strings, the player will find the tailpiece is not only reliable but easy to use.

Renaissance banjo heads are a favorite of old time / clawhammer banjoists. A renaissance banjo head features a smooth top and opaque antique white color. This type of head is less bright sounding than a top frosted white head but brighter than a fiberskyn head.
The Deering black banjo head is strikingly different, this head is somewhat mellow in tone with long sustain, lots of low frequency response (bass) and not as crisp as a clear or bottom frosted head. More sustain than the fiberskyn and not plunky at all.
Head diameter: 11 inches
